Quarry Forum in Pampanga 003_0.jpg The Provincial Capitol of Pampanga and the Industry Project Team of the University of the Philippines, Diliman Extension Program in Pampanga (UPDEPP) conducted a Stakeholders’ Conference for the Pampanga’s Quarrying Industry at the Benigno Hall, Capitol Compound in Pampanga on June 16, 2008.
The conference aimed to gather representatives from concerned LGUs , NGOs, quarry operators, personnel from Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB)and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), and other government agencies and draw up problems , solutions and suggestions to promote the growth of quarrying industry in Pampanga.
Prof. Virginia Yap of UPDEPP presented their research project entitled “ Pampanga’s Quarrying Industry” to the group and provided them a clearer and more comprehensive view of the industry’s current scenario.
A workshop followed in the afternoon where participants assessed the present status of the quarrying industry , analyzed its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) and came up with the recommendations on how to enhance the industry’s competitiveness, innovativeness and growth.
Also present during the conference was Pampanga Governor “Among” Ed Panlilio who announced the increased of quarry collections to P210 million as of May 2008 compared to 29.1 million collected under the administration of former Gov. Mark Lapid in 2006. Gov. Panlilio said a portion of the revenues collected were allocated for the social services and other government projects of the province.
