The Mines and Geosciences Bureau held the 2016 Annual Technical Forum at the Widus Hotel, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga last November 10-12, 2016 with the theme “ The Mineral Industry and the Geosciences: Challenges and Opportunities in the Changing Times.”
OIC, Regional Director Lope O. Cariño, Jr. of MGB R-III gave the opening message and welcomed the guests and participants from MGB Central Office and Regional Offices.
Twenty Six (26) technical papers focusing on mining, geology including environmental management, social development and other topics relevant to the mineral industry were presented during the forum.
MGB Region III ’s entries were “ “Utilization of Agro-Industrial Minerals in Region III“ by Supervising Geologist Teresa I. Coching, “Precious Metal Mineralization in the Proposed Minahang Bayan Area in Brgy. Calabasa, Gabaldon , Nueva Ecija” by Engineer III Danilo A. Fernandez , and “ Zambales Mine Suspension: The Immediate Effects Relative to Its Contribution” by Engineer II Stephanie Ivy T. Jadormio.

This year’s board of judges were former DENR RED Israel Gaddi, who was also the guest speaker, former MGB RD Arnulfo Cabantog , Engr. Ludwig John H. Pascual, and Engr. Edgardo D. Castillo..
Mining companies throughout the country attended and participated in the 63th Annual Mine Safety and Environment Conference ANMSEC) which was held last November 15-18, 2016 in Baguio City.
The Conference kicked-off with a tree planting activity at the Botanical Garden, the holding of press conference, and welcome cocktails/media night at the Baguio Country Club. The next day, a Mining Exhibit was featured at the CAP-John Hay Convention Center followed by the 4th Community Relations (COMREL) Officers Conference at the Main Hall.
On November 17, A Mineral Industry Symposium was held with several speakers discussing topics related to mining. The last day featured the Mineral Industry Parade from Session Road to Burnham Park followed by Mine Safety Field Demonstration and Field Competitions on mine rescue, fire fighting, machine drilling, hand mucking and the tug-of-peace.
The event culminated with the awarding of the best achievements in mine health and safety, and environmental protection initiatives as well as the Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award (PMIEA) based on their last year’s submitted performance in the given fields. This year’s PMIEA Awardees are OceanaGold Philippines, Inc and SR Metals for Surface Mining Operation and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation for Mineral Processing Category.
The ANMSEC was organized by the Philippine Mine Safety Association (PMSEA) with the theme, “63 Years of Responsible Mining. . . Moving Forward By Doing It Right.”

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region III, conducted an Orientation Briefing on Mining Laws to Small Scale Miners in the Province of Tarlac on September 28, 2016 at Farmers’ Training Center , Tarlac Agricultural University, Camiling, Tarlac.
The said orientation was conducted by the MGB Team consisting of OIC, Mine Management Division Engr. Reynaldo Cruz, OIC Mine Safety , Environment and Social Devt Division Engr. Lauro Garcia, Jr, Administrative Officer IV Flor D. Miranda, Administrative Assistants Marlyn Andan and Divina Gracia Miranda.
