The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region III and the mining companies in Bulacan joined the Provincial and Community Environment Offices, Local Government Units (LGUs) and other organizations in celebrating Arbor Day on June 25, 2016.
A short program started the activity with Celia D. Esteban, Bulacan Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer, Roger V. Encarnacion, Tabang Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer, and Federico Cruz, Chairman of Barangay San Mateo welcoming the participants.
Representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways, MGB R-III, Bureau of Fire and Protection, Mason Bulacan Chapter and Norzagaray Environment and Natural Resources Officer also shared some inspirational messages during the program.
The group then proceeded in Suha, San Mateo, Norzagaray, Bulacan. and planted around 2,000 Narra tree seedlings.
Arbor Day is being celebrated every June 25 of the year, in line with Republic Act No. 10176 “ An Act Reviving the Observance of Arbor Day By Authorizing the Local Government Units the Responsibilities for Celebrating the Day for Tree Planting as and Annual Event, ” where it recognizes the vital role and importance of trees in ecological stability and the need for a collaborated effort between the State and its citizenry to combat the loss of our natural resources and rejuvenate our environment by undertaking nationwide tree planting activities and providing effective measures for their maintenance and sustainability.
The mining companies that joined in the said event were Eagle Cement Corporation, Ore Asia Mining and Development Corporation, Republic Cement and Building Materials Inc. – Bulacan and Norzagaray Plant, Holcim Philippines, Inc. Bulacan Plant and Luzon Continental Land Corporation
Eagle Cement Corporation (ECC) recently conducted a medical mission at the ECC Plant in Barangay Akle, San Ildefonso, Bulacan . Said activity was sponsored by Alpha Delta Mu Sorority from UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.
The medical team is composed of 20 participants led by Dra. Jocelyn Zamora-Mariano. The medical mission started with a lecture on breast and cancer awareness and how to spot the early symptoms of the disease. ECC invited women from sitios of Bgy. Akle, Alagao and Talbak to attend the said activity. The company also invited the Barangay Health Workers to assist the medical team. More than 80 women were provided with breast and cervical cancer screening. Some of the women were very happy to find out that their findings are normal. Some who were diagnosed to have abnormalities in breast and cervix were given medical referral by Dra. Mariano to arrest the disease early. The medical team offered to do the activity on a yearly basis including minor surgery and circumcision.
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau MGB) Region III was declared as the sole “Best Performing Regional Office,” for the CY 2015. The announcement was made during the MGB Programming Workshop held on April 5-9, 2016 at the Sequoia Hotel, Timog Avenue, Quezon City.
In his message to MGB R-III personnel, OIC, Regional Director Lope O. Carino, Jr. said, “This is another milestone on the part of MGB R-III. The Office has been named Best Regional Office for two consecutive years now. May this recognition inspire us to exert more effort in accomplishing our programs. I’m urging everyone to continue working as a team to meet the demands of a competitive bureaucracy. We need the cooperation of everyone to sustain our standing.”
